Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication for Leaders
In times of crisis, all eyes often turn to communication professionals for leadership and counsel. Are you prepared to provide your organization or clients with a communication plan that meets the expectations of all who may be impacted?
Join PRSA San Antonio for our April 7 professional development luncheon – Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication for Leaders. Brent Boller, an experienced public affairs officer and former San Antonio news radio anchor, will deliver advice and expertise on crisis communications. Boller will provide insights on:
- What the public seeks from its leaders in a crisis
- Communication failures that kill operational success
- Communication steps that lead to success
- What people are feeling during a health emergency
- Expected behaviors, such as perception of risk, that must be confronted
Boller handled numerous crisis situations including the 1995 crash of a military aircraft that killed a Randolph Air Force Base two-star general and seven others, rabies vaccinations for 200 U.S. Air Force recruits thought to have been exposed to bats, and the last-minute request by the U.S. government to accept 200 unaccompanied children from Central American countries. He was also a spokesman for the largest military sex scandal in recent history involving 35 military training instructors (drill instructors) at Lackland AFB and 69 victims. The scandal was called the most significant local event by the Express-News for two years in a row. He was also the primary spokesman for a West Nile Virus scare on Fort Sam Houston. Brent participated in well over 100 TV, radio and newspaper interviews both locally and nationwide during his four-year tenure at Joint Base San Antonio.
Brent Boller is replacing our original speaker, Bob Howard, who was deployed by FEMA to Louisiana due to the floods. Bob serves as a media relations officer for FEMA.
